Course overview

The MMEL (Master Minimum Equipment List) is an approved document that sets out, for an aircraft type, which equipment may be inoperative and under which conditions. It is the basis of each operator’s MEL.

This awareness course gives a quick foundation before developing or revising a MEL: regulatory basis, reading and interpreting a MMEL and a MEL, and the responsibilities of authorities, manufacturers and operators.

Learning objectives

On completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the MMEL as the basis of the MEL for an aircraft type.
  • Know under which conditions an aircraft may fly with inoperative equipment.
  • Identify the operations and maintenance responsibilities related to applying the MEL.

Why MEL & MMEL training?

Misreading the MEL can lead to a flight being dispatched outside its approved conditions, or to unnecessary delays. Crews, operations and maintenance staff need a common understanding of how it works.

This short course helps teams decide faster and more safely whether a flight can go ahead with a failure, and reduces interpretation errors.
